This summer, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will continue a summer reading requirement in order to encourage reading. Each student completing grades five through eleven is required to read at least one book over the summer months.
This summer at Robinson teachers, staff, and students will read together over the summer, and come back in the fall with a common book to discuss. This meaningful summer assignment will encourage reading, a critical skill, serve as a culture-building activity, and open a conversation among students, faculty, and staff for discussion and activities in the fall.
Grades 7- 8 students will read A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park. A Long Walk to Water is a Virginia's Readers' Choice Book (2013-14).
Grades 9-12 students will read I Will Always Write Back, by Caitlin Alifirenka & Martin Ganda, with Liz Welch. I Will Always Write Back is a Virginia's Readers' Choice Book (2016-17)

Reading is crucial to academic achievement, and I urge you to encourage your child to read many books, magazines, and newspaper articles over the summer months. I appreciate your help as we all work together to support the academic program at Robinson Secondary School.
